FIM 2010 (ILM v2) Licensing Model ?

    質問

  • Hello !

Hope you can help me out with a rather untechnical question...here it goes...have just learn that ILM V2 will be Forefront Identity Manager 2010, but I haven't found any information regarding the licensing model, rumors I've heard is that the license model will be "per user" or with need of CAL's regardless of usage (ILM 2007 differentiates the need of CAL's IF and only IF one use CLM 2007 and issue certificates...if one only use the sync engine a server license will suffice) ?

I guess that the portal functions of FIM 2010 might have resulted in the (imo negative) change of licence model ?

    /A

(As Paul directed me, I've posted this question on the correct forum, my bad !)

  • FIM 2010 is licensed on a Server + User CAL basis:

    • User CALs are required for each person who accesses FIM 2010
      • Users for whom the software issues or manages identity information (including digital certificates)
      • Admins accessing the FIM 2010 management capabilities
    • As in ILM 2007, user access to certificate and smart card management (subset of credential management) requires user CALs
    • Exception: CALs are not required to synchronize identity information using ILM 2007 server or MIIS 2003 server technology.
This is use of only FIM Synchronization Server and not FIM Service, FIM Portal or FIM Certificate Management.
    • Server license is required for each server that the software is installed on
    • There are no Device CALs

  • Don't forget the external connector license, which is available instead of CALs for external users. "External users are users who are not employees or onsite contractors" another spot in the product use rights guide defines it as this:

“External users” means users that are not either:

    (i)    your or your affiliates’ employees, or

(ii)   your or your affiliates’ onsite contractors or agents.

Apparently "affiliate" is defined in the customer's license agreement

  • What if I have an account on two networks?  Do I need two user CALs?

    hi,

what about the Computers for whom the Software issues/ manages certificates?

Do I need for each Computer with Computer Certificate a CAL?

actually i would say no, because of

    • There are no Device CALs

    am I right?

Correct, but you need to keep in mind that FIM CM can only manage computer certificates that are requested in the security context of a user account. If the request for the certificate is submitted by a computer account then FIM CM can't manage it.
