Batch of new Win 10 PCs, latest update of Windows 10. Each office install via ODT fails.

  • Can't work this out. Bunch of new PCs, updated to latest Windows 10 build. Install latest Office via ODT and each is failing with error below in event log.

I have the option selected to pin the icons to the taskbar, but the install runs as admin/different credentials than the non admin domain user logged on? But as if MS wouldn't test this? As if they would fire their QA team and have garbage like this happen?

The install appears to of got to the end but its just completely fucked. When I open say Word it prompts to activate but says "This feature has been disabled by your administrator. Enter a Product Key instead". Googling and finding the registry entry that configures this shows it is just missing, so who knows what else is missing or broken.

Trying to select Change from Programs and Features for it to run a repair does nothing. Nothing launches.

Just how in fuck is this even possible. New PC, latest updates, latest Office. Fucks up. You leave your partners onsite dealing with this shit anxious about every PC they do now because you've piled so much shit up in a pile that can just go wrong.

Just fucking fix this. This should not ever be possible.

  • Hi,

I completely understand your frustration and we are trying to help.

About the Office installation issue with ODT, do you mean the installation failed finally? If it was the case, please open File Explorer, go to the default Office setup log file path %temp%, view the SetUpExe2018XXXXX log file. Share us the log content for more analysis.

About the prompted message you shared "This feature has been disabled by your administrator. Enter a Product Key instead ", it seems that the Office product is not activated. Any some features is blocked by group policy settings. Please check the following points:

    1. In Word 2016, click File > Account, check if there is Sign In button available.

    2. Under Product Information, collect the detailed product name and check if it is activated successfully.

    3. Open the registry editor, go to the following path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\SignIn

Confirm if there is any registry keys and values. If there is, please share the detailed settings to us.

    Best Regards,
    Winnie Liang
