  • Hi superhl, could you please kindly advise whether you use WSUS for update?

Also, please try resetting the Windows Update components with link script below:

Then, restart the computer and use DISM tool to repair, type the following command at a command prompt(Admin):
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Here is a link for your reference If the issue is still existing after take above steps, could you please share the complete CBS.log via OneDrive?

  • I use WSUS. I ran the " Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth". No errors! Deleted the software distribution folder. Ran updates still stuck at 0%

  • Since this is a new WSUS on Server 2012 R2... Here's a snippit from my blog series on how to setup manage and maintain wsus which is going to be posted on June 1st.

    Upgrades from WSUS

If you are going to handle upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 10 latest streams in WSUS (eg, 1511 to 1607 or 1703 or 1709) also known as Windows as a Service (WaaS), there are 3 things you need to do on Server 2012 or Server 2012 R2 (2016 has all of this taken care of already except some people have had to do #2). If you've followed my instructions from the start, you can skip number 3 as that's already done.

    1. In Products/Classifications, make sure to check off the Upgrades box or Windows 10 Upgrades will not be available to approve.
    2. You also will need to add a MIME type for *.esd as application/octet-stream at the top level in IIS.
To do this: Open IIS Manager > Select the server name > From the "IIS" section in the centre of IIS Manager, open "MIME Types" > Click "Add..." >
      File Mame Extention: = .esd
      MIME type: application/octet-stream
    3. On WSUS 2012 or 2012 R2 only, install KB3159706 which should come as a regular Windows update. Then you need to perform the extra manual steps that are well documented here: - Perform ALL OF THE STEPS including the ones for SSL (which is Microsoft's best practice anyways; more on that in Part 7).
