  • Hi Rashid,

Based on my knowledge, there is no global Group Policy settings to set the default Fonts for whole Office 2016 applications.

Generally, we can do the following settings about the default Font for different Office applications:

    Word 2016

    1. Open Word and start with a clean new document.
    2. Hit CTRL-D to start the Font settings.
    3. Set your Font of choice and hit “Set as Default
    4. “Save as” the document to Normal.dotm
    5. Copy this Normal.dotm file to “%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm" and replace the old one.

    Outlook 2016:

    1. Set the font in Outlook on a clean machine by going to Options -> Stationary and fonts… in Outlook. Close Outlook.
    2. On this Machine, go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\MailSettings".
    3. Export by right click on the MailSettings folder.
    4. Then you can push/import this MailSettings registry value to your wanted computer.
    5. You can set the MailSettings above to the path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\MailSettings

    The main registry values are:

    Value name: “ComposeFontComplex”
    Value name: “ComposeFontSimple”
    Value name: “CReplyFontComplex”
    Value name: “ReplyFontSimple”
    Value name: “TextFontComplex”
    Value name: “TextFontSimple”

    Excel 2016:

    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel\Options
    Value name: Font
    Value type: REG_SZ
    Value: Font,11
Note: In Excel it is possible to set the font through a GPO: “\Microsoft Excel 2016\Excel Options\General\Font”

    Hope it is helpful.

    Best Regards,

    Winnie Liang

    Hi Darren,

    It doesn't work for Outlook.

    No reg export/import

    No reg GPP

does anyone else please prove that. I really tried a lot (hope everything). the reg keys are created but outlook does not use it.

  • i have done this successfully by exporting the reg key after setting the fonts, then turning the reg key into an xml file using a convertor, then import this into GPP

  • Hey,

what reg key do I have use to set the color for unread e-mails?

    2018년 6월 5일 화요일 오전 7:22
  • Hi,

did you find a method for Outlook?

We managed to get ours working just fine, you just need to export the mail settings reg and then convert it to an XML file.

Once you do this, you should be able to import the XML and deploy across your environment
