Azure Backup configuration did not succeed. An Unknown error occurred. RRS feed

  • 질문

  • I'm trying to configure the Azure backup from inside the WSE Dashboard of windows server 2016 with essentials experience role.

When doing the Azure Backup task "Register this server for backup" I go through a wizard and in the final step I get "Azure Backup configuration did not succeed. An Unknown error occurred."

    Video of the problem: https://youtu.be/ZtkzMZDNc3M

When I follow troubleshooting links, I don't find anything useful.
I don't see anything useful in the event logs either, strangely.

Has someone here been in this situation?

  • Have you checked the logs in c:\programdata\microsoft\windows server\logs ?

Thank you Robert! I didn't know it was there, and there it is, the Dashboard log. It has a lot of information, and a lot of errors that don't make much sense to me.

I just finished installing Azure backup manually as seen in the video from the link "Andy You" posted (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD8WBhOA-1c)

That is not the solution I was hoping for, so it was not the answer I wanted to use the WSE dashboard to set it upp, but well, the backup works this way also :) But I would really want this to work from the Dashboard. I'm so obsessed with the WSE dashboard, it just has to work and Microsoft has to make updates to it if something changes in their online services that stops the dashboard from working perfectly.

Now there is a new problem, I can't restore files from the dashboard:

Bu from the Azure backup management console, it's no problem.

So once again, it's a problem with the Dashboard.

  • hi,
Before you can use Azure Backup for online backups in Windows Server Essentials, you must upload a public certificate to register with the backup vault. The certificate is used to authenticate the Azure Backup deployment (the agent), acting on behalf of the Microsoft Online Services subscription owner to manage resources associated with the subscription.

  • For what it's worth, I got this same error, and found a solution that appears to work with the Windows Server 2016 Dashboard:

    * Create the Recovery Services vault in the Azure Portal, and download the credentials file (I found it under Backup Credentials in the vault's Properties page).
    * Exit the Dashboard.
    * Open the shortcut to the Microsoft Azure Backup application (I think the Dashboard put it on my Desktop at some point when I was trying to set it up there).
    * Go to "Register Server", skip the Proxy Configuration page, and select the credentials file.
    * Go through the rest of the process in Microsoft Azure Backup to configure and schedule the backups, and close the application.
    * Re-open the Dashboard.  Go to Azure Backup, see the backup there.

Seems to work for me so far.  I'll update if I have any issues.
