is it possible? msp without admin rights for execution

    질문

  • Hello,

is it possible to create an msp using OCT, that could be used (double -clicked) by standard user (no admin rights) for installation?

    Thanks.

    Hi Pob579,

To install Office, you need to save the customization .msp file to the Updates folder in the package root directory. When a user installs Office by double clicking the setup.exe, it will automatically looks for a Setup customization file in the Updates folder and applies the customizations.

If you only need to customize an existing installation of Office, that is, you decide later that you want to make additional changes to an existing installation, then yes, you can create an MSP file using OCT that can be double-clicked by an end user to apply. See the relevant section in this link

  • I need to allow to small group of users to execute msp on local machine for adding Outlook to an existing Office installation.

The obstacle is that MSP cannot be executed without admin rights. So the tech should login to each pc for such a trivial task.

May be there is a way to create this MSP without need to have admin rights for execution?

    Hi Pob579,

Have you tried to use a deployment management program, such as Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, to deploy the Setup customization files?

Additionally, you may refer to the following article and have a try to see if the set AlwaysInstallElevated value to "1" can work. Do remember to backup the registry before editing in case problems occur.

How to allow users who are not administrators to install MSI packages

The setting can also be configured via Group Policy:
