IE9 Crashes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ie9 crashes spontanously when doing a Facebook PHOTO UPLOAD, upon opening the system's PICTURES folder.

The behavior appears to be an incompatibility between PICTURES (which is a photograph folder with 'Date Taken') folder and uploading and it happens in many other web based uploads, not just Facebook.

Unable to unhighlight 'Date Taken' in IE9 to see if that is the cause, I installed FIREFOX in customer's system and it does not experience the problem.

Running current VISTA and IE9 releases with all patches as of 2/3/2012.

Reinstalling Ie9 has no effect. Drive repair and various antialware solutions have no effect.

  • Hi,

Try resetting IE's security zone settings to the default (there is a security setting to include the file path in file upload elements.

Tools>Internet Options, Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default"

Don't put facebook.com in the Trusted Sites Zone.... facebook has content from a multitude of third-party sites... (there is a security setting covering navigation between sites in different security zones, facebook uses meta redirects for browsers with scripting disabled which is disabled by default for the Restricted Sites zone)

best if facebook is in no Security Zone (gets mapped to the internet zone by default)

A general rule of thumb is that if a site works in FX/Chrome but not in MSIE (8 and above) then the issue is caused by

    IE Security Zone settings

    or

    One of your IE Addons.

when testing web sites make sure you are using the default security zone settings (there should never be a need to change them... ). You should include running IE in noAddons in your test plans.

    Regards.
