How do I tell Lync Server 2010 which Active Directory Domain Controller to use? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to figure out how I would tell Lync Server 2010 to only use specific domain controllers for any and all operations such as activating users for lync, authenticating on login, etc...

The goal here is that I have Lync setup at a site and I don't want it to try and use DC's at another site in the same domain. I know this was possible with HMC but I'm not sure how it would be achieved with Lync 2010.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

  • Lync Server will use the Domain and DC at the site that it is a part of. But it wil eventually replicate to all DC of domain.

    Maybe this will help?

  • Hi,Andrew,

As Matt said the Lync data will replicated to all DC of domain by default, maybe you can try to block the Lync data replicates to the other DC located on another site. But I am not sure if these works.

  • I agree with Matt, it does this automatically based on site. You can use "dsget site" to find out what site the server thinks it belongs to.

Has anyone been able to do this?

  • Typically the data of Lync is replicated to all the DCs across sites.. However if you want to point your Frontend servers to specific Site's DC for all the AD related jobs, follow the below stuff [ ensure you try this during off-business hours ]

Try updating the DynamicSiteName / SiteName reg keys in each of your frontend servers !!

    Path : HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters

Note : If the any of the Reg key is not available, create one..

By update the above reg keys, the front-ends will always try to connect the ONLY DCs in the specific site you mentioned.

Please revert back with if any queries or with your experience post executing the above stuff..
