Lync and Deleted Office 365 Users RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 7 PC with Lync 2010 client, Outlook 2010 to Exchange 2013. Lync is using Office 365, in the cloud. We've noticed users that have been deleted - AD account deleted - show up in the Deleted Users tab on the Office 265 admin portal. But they are also showing up when their name (last name which others share) is entered into the "Find a contact" field in the Lync client. It SEEMS like the users remain "searchable" for a period of time (maybe 30 days?) after they are deleted. Is this true? Can the time period be changed (or is it an Office 365/cloud parameter)?

  • Lync online will offer an offline address book, which will be created through the Lync server address book service.

Maybe the offline address book will not correct replicate from the Lync server.

You can try to delete the galcontacts.db and .idx.

  • Hi CCHSRBall,

I’m not aware how it is processed in Office 365, but in On-premises deployment, if you delete an user account in AD, after a few minutes (Lync Server User Replicator will pick up the changes from Active Directory and update the Lync Server user database based on a configured interval, By default Lync Server User Replicator runs automatically every 5 minutes.), the deleted user who you added into your contact list will disappear from your contact list and could not be searched no longer.

Note: In this scenario, I assume in on-premises deployment the address book service is configured to use web search only, so the Lync client doesn't download and save a local copy of the address book any longer. (Actually, in Skype for Business Online, address book and GAL lookups are performed through web requests only.)

    Best regards,

    Eric
