Support status of SQL 2008 Express on Lync Server 2010 Standard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone know whether Lync Server 2010 Standard, which is supported until April 2021, will still be in a supported state after SQL Server 2008 Express goes EOL in July 2019?

I'm trying to work out whether the SQL EOL date forces us to upgrade Lync Server 2010 Standard earlier than we planned (we are sadly not very proactive with our upgrades)

Apologies if this isn't the correct sub-forum, I couldn't find an exact match for my query.
    Thanks for reading.

  • Hi sf_infra,

As you said, according to the product lifecycle from Microsoft, the Extended Support End Data of Lync Server 2010 is 4/13/2021, and the data of SQL Server 2008 is 7/9/2019.

As you know, the Lifecycle Policy has no effect on how long you can use a product. The Policy outlines how long Microsoft will provide technical support and security updates for products. Once a product transitions out of support, no further support will be provided for the product. This means that customers will NOT have access to:
    Security updates or non-security hotfixes
Free or paid assisted support options
    Microsoft product development resources
Updates to online content (Knowledge Base articles, etc.)
So, you could also use the SQL Server 2008 with Lync Server 2010 after 7/9/2019, however, you will not get those services and it is not recommended by official. So we suggest you upgrade the Lync Server 2010 to the higher version. Details about those information you could refer to Microsoft Lifecycle Policy

    Best Regards,
    Evan Jiang
