Hardware failure resulted in total loss of data (CMS, topology, etc.) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We had an environment consisting of a Lync 2010 Standard frontend server that hosted the CMS and Lync 2013 Standard frontend and edge servers to which I had planned on migrating everything. Keeping this short, we had a hardware failure on the Lync 2010 server and I am unable to revive the CMS.

My ultimate goal will be to move my on-prem Exchange 2013 to Office 365, along with the UM services. To accomplish this, I know I'll need the the mediation role of Skype for Business to connect my on-prem Cisco UCM to O365. Since Lync is toast anyway, now seems like the time to abandon it for a clean Skype deployment. However, I am unable to de-install Lync according to published documentation because I cannot access the CMS.

Because it's all in Active Directory, I do not believe it's wise to simply uninstall from the servers and move forward. How can I safely eliminate Lync - both versions - from my environment? Thank you for any guidance.
