  • Hi,

Is there any third-party antivirus software installed? If yes, please disable or uninstall it completely to check the symptom.

Please try to run SFC /scannow command to scan the integrity of operating system files.

Then run "bcdedit /enum all" to check the bcd configuration.

We can use a Windows 10 installation media to perform a upgrade installation:

Boot from the installation media and choose "Upgrade" install.

  • Antivirus software has been already disabled.

    SFC comes back with success.

    PS C:\windows\system32> sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Upgrade to next win10 release is not an option at this time. System Reserved partition seems okay  ..when I mount it as M: and look at files, all look good.

    \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume1\

Is there a way to copy this entire partition from another working PC? Does this idea has a potential for success? I don't think system partition has any issue or corruption but just to give it a try, we can.

    PS C:\> bcdedit /enum all

  • Hi,

This offline download and install of the update. I am running command prompt as admin and then running the patch. .Net framework is installed correctly. Firewall is off.

VPN is not an issue (it is not configured/used on this computer)
System Reserved partition has enough free space.

I am sad that there is no work around so the patch can be installed and it does not do rollback/ "Undoing the changes" due to an issue it thinks it has with System Reserved partition. There is nothing wrong with my system but patch sees something and rollbacks. Argh!! I have some hope that we can find a work around so it does not rollback and security updates can be applied. Help!!

    Thank you.

  • C:\windows\boot\PCAT -> \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Boot

'SetNamedSecurityInfo failed! Error code = 0x2'

Question is after copying files to Boot directory what is the patch trying to set security that we get SetNamedSecurityInfo failed in the CBS.log?

Is there a command line way to set correct security using tool such as icacls ?

If we can set correct ACLs then possibly patch will work? Looking for a workaround.

    Thank you.
