adding then removing the lync meeting option in outlook meeting has issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • when setting up a meeting in
outlook, adding the lync meeting option, then removing it if turns out to not be
appropriate for the attendees, then sending out the meeting, i get an error
    message regarding the lync meeting.

When I click ok on this error message, it then forces the removed lync
meeting details back into the meeting request, even though these details were
    removed.

This is happening for a few computers in my company. Our computers are all built with the same base image and same scripted install of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013. the current version of Outlook is 15.0.4701.1000 (32-bit)

Is this a known issue? I have been told by an Lync deployment specialist that this might be a bug with the Lync meeting plugin for outlook.

  • Hi,

It is better to create a new meeting invitation. If you want delete the Lync invite information by updating the Lync meeting, you will still meet the same error message.

If you want to delete the Lync invite information by updating the meeting, you have to disable the Lync conference add-ins firstly, then update the invitation.

  • No, this is not a known issue, this works as designed.

If you create a online meeting and remove the meeting info before you send the meeting invite. The lync meeting add-in will fix this invite.

If you want to use this as default meeting invite´, you have to create a new meeting invite without online meeting or send you online meetin and send the update without the online meeting after the initial invite.

  • thank you for the response on this, and I understand and accept this. from a users perspective however, it seems silly that the add-in would behave this way, I would suggest that in future the Lync development team consider revising this as it could make a better user experience.

  • Agree this is silly.  And the response is the typical arrogant answer.  "We designed it to be annoying.  We're smart like that.  Have a nice day."

  • Yes, it is only possible to create a own application add in for customized meeting invites.

  • That's an absurd way for this add-in to behave. The worst case is hitting the big "Skype Meeting" button by mistake and then you cannot undo that and have to redo the entire meeting!

If the meeting involved multiple meeting rooms and various hard-to-spell attendances redoing it is a huge pain.

All user-interfaces need to be able to undo at least a single action, if not all actions - this add-in is borderline barbaric, now where do one go about to get rid of it...

  • This is the most pathetic user-unfriendly features I ever saw.

Is bureaucrats design software in Microsoft?

I will take the high road here (although I truly want to be insulting to somebody): A simple UNDO LYNC MEETING button would go a LOOOOOOOONG way to making this more user friendly. Thank you Microsoft for your time and attention to this matter.

    Cheers!

  • As another user, I agree that the lack of ability to undo the Lync meeting property is substandard.  Users should have a way to undo the Lync meeting without starting completely over again.

  • What nonsense.  This is a known is by users.  Since when do you get to choose what the paying users describe as a problem.    If I accidently hit the "make it a Skype Meeting" option - there is no recourse but to start all over.  That's poor.

  • Thanks for your answer.

If this behavior works as designed, then this feature is broken by design.

You can consider either an "undo" option for removing Skype meeting or not force the "fix it for you" at the sending stage (which is quite late, counter intuitive and rather corresponds to "I'll break it for you... silently").

There is a lot of room for improvements as more and more users use Skype for business, you should consider usability at some point in your design decisions.

  • Is the below technet specific for Online deployments as opposed to on-prem ?

  • I have to agree with the above users. This is a design flaw, you should be able to add, remove or update a skype meeting without having to create an entirely new meeting.

  • Idea... rather than deleted and re-creating the meeting invitation without the Lync/Skype information:  just make the Lync/Skype information white text on a white background.  Unless people are looking for it, they will never know it's there.
