federation Lync 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I had enabled federation with a partner organization and presence works fine if i start an Im conversation or if i add the partner user to contact list.

It does not work when i do a search for the partner organization user and shows as presence unknown.

    is this by design ?

  • Hi,

This is by lync design. For presence of federated partners either you need to doubleclick id after putting in search bar or add in contact list.

  • I can confirm this is normal behavior. If they are not in your contacts list, you will need to open the conversation window before Lync attempts to resolve the presence of that user.

  • Agree to comments by Anjali, when you add the contact to your contacts list of double click to start an IM you are in effect subscribing to their presence.

  • Verify the Federation settings of both your and your partner organization (Open, Closed, etc.), and check that the latter's Federation Edge FQDN settings are correctly defined where appropriate.
