Online Meeting - Share Desktop greyed out RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I have a new stand alone lync server deployment.  Everything so far has worked perfectly.  IM is working, you can share desktops from an IM session. However when you clicked "meet now" the sharing didn't work.

I found from another post that I had left conferencing disabled.  So I enabled conferencing, Enterprise voice, and PSTN conf, then republished.  Now when you "meet now" the share buttons are no longer greyed out.  However, there is a new error message that says "The conferencing service did not respond.  Please wait and try again"

And, what still isn't working is the online Meeting sharing.  When we setup and online meeting and join it, the share items are all greyed out.

I checked my cert and it's set for all uses.  I'm not sure what to do next.  I was going to use the logging tool but I don't know which items to enable.  There are a TON of things in there.

  • Hi,Statistic,

So the desktop sharing issue only happens to the meeting which is created by Outlook, right?

Would you please try as follow:

    Set-CSMeetingConfiguration  –EnableAssignedConferenceType $False
    Set-CSMeetingConfiguration  –AssignedConferenceTypeByDefault $False

Exited Lync and Outlook and try again.

Also please check the conferencing policy to see if you have assigned conflict site level or pool level conferencing policies.

  • By the way this system is not integrated with our phone system.

  • Sounds like there are potentially issues with your conferencing services on your Front End server/s.

When you see the "Conferencing service did not respond" error in Lync, what error/warning do you see in the Lync Server event log on the Front End server?

  • I tried using the log tool, but the options are so extensive.  Which logs would i want to turn on when I use it?  And by the way, it's just one server handling everything.

  • I mean the Lync Server event log within the Event Viewer snap-in on the Front End server. Can you tell me what errors are being generated there?

If we can't determine the problem from the event logs we can turn to the Logging Tool.

  • Oh sorry.  That was one of the first things I looked at.  There is nothing there, it's completely clean both application and system logs.
    Tuesday, January 31, 2012 9:09 PM
  • The Application and System logs will be clean, but there is an event log called Lync Server as well, open up all the event logs. There should be some kind of error there also.

  • AHA! (idn't know that.)

There is a pretty much constant spam of this..

"Lync Server Archiving Agent failed to create a local administration queue for acknowledgements.

Cause: This can happen if Message Queuing is unavailable or not installed with Active Directory integration.

    Resolution:

Verify that Message Queuing is installed with Active Directory integration and operating correctly. If it is not, re-install the Message Queuing service with Active Directory integration and restart Message Queuing."

    These others are sporadic..

    "

One or more phone numbers failed to normalize.

552 total numbers failed to normalize. They are listed in the text file: '\\cookie.mydomain.org\Lyncshare\1-WebServices-1\ABFiles\00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt'

Cause: One or more phone number attributes in Active Directory contained text that could not be normalized. Normalization rules are contained in the optional Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file located in the output location or in the generic rules built into Address Book Server. Refer to the documentation for a description of the built-in generic normalization rules. Use the ABServer -dumpRules command to see all the rules that Address Book Server is currently configured with.

    Resolution:

Either create a Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file in the output location and make sure it covers all cases found in your Active Directory deployment or fix the invalid phone number(s) in the Active Directory record(s)."

    ----------------------------------

"There is no Conference Auto Attendant configured for this cluster. Conferences hosted on this cluster may still use Conference Auto Attendant but some functionality, such as name recording, may be impaired.

Cause: No Conference Auto Attendant application deployed on this cluster.

    Resolution:

Deploy Conference Auto Attendant on this cluster."

    --------------------------

"This phone route has an empty gateway list.

    Route name: LocalRoute"

But I think this is my problem.  I went ahead and duplicated the problem THEN looked at the log and I see this..

"The Mcu Factory returned failure for a request sent to it. Conferencing requests for this Mcu type will be retried but if this error continues to occur conferencing functionality will be affected.

    Mcu Type: audio-video

Cause: Mcu factory not being provisioned or functioning incorrectly.

    Resolution:

Ensure that the Mcu Factory is provisioned and functioning correctly. If any network related errors are reported by the Mcu Factory ensure that they are resolved."

  • Have you tried restarting all the conferencing services and it didn't help?

If so, it would be worth re-running the Install of Update Lync Server System (bootstrapper) step in the Deployment Wizard because it looks like your conferencing services are not behaving properly.

  • I just patched the server (there was actually a Windowsupdate item for Lync) Then rebooted.  The error message is now gone.  I still though have the problem of not being able to share decktops for an online meeting (share desktop works in all other areas).  I have allot of data to look at so I'll post if i'm stuck.
