Lync server 2010 and Exchange 2013 - Compatibility RRS feed

  • Question

  • Re-posting as I mistakenly marked a posting as answered and then realized it was not.

We run Exchange 2010 (1 server) and we also use Lync Server 2010 (for IM and presence only, that is it). There is no UM, no integration with OWA (nor will there be). I am not interested in integration with Lync 2010 and Exchange 2013......so, just curious if Lync Server 2010, and our Lync 2013 clients, will still work after installing Exchange 2013. My assumption is that it will since I am not aware of any dependencies. This article seems to indicate, yes....Exchange 2013 is compatible with Lync server 2010.

We will upgrade our Lync server once we have Exchange 2013 installed.

  • The Lync 2010 server will work without any Exchange server. If you migrate to Exchange 2013 EWS will still work and the Lync client can connect through mapi to the Outlook client.

So you can first migrate to Exchange 2013 and than to Skype for Business.

  • Hi Leon, thank you for responding. I was looking for confirmation that this is correct, sometimes MS documentation isn't 100% accurate. I had hoped that someone reading this post will have already gone through this process and can confirm either way.
