Disk Cleanup causing Windows 10 to go into BSOD loop

    Question

  • Disk Cleanup is causing Windows 10 to go into BSOD loop.

"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we will restart for you."

The message says the error is due to a critical service failing to start.

This happened to me initially after doing a Disk Cleanup. I have now narrowed it down to the "Delete Temporary Files" part of Disk Cleanup by going through the Disk Cleanup options one by one with a restart after each. I've done this a few times now to prove it by setting a restore point, doing the delete, and then restarting to get the BSOD loop going.

The only way to get my OS back after is by doing a System Restore. None of the safe modes work - I get the message that nvstor.sys is missing or corrupt when I try get to safe mode.

Are there any logs I can attach to help the people at Microsoft? Also, can I do a delete manually somehow? There are 20GB of temp files according to Disk Cleanup and I'd like to get rid of them.

    Cheers
