Lync 2010 - possible to run FE and Edge Service on the same server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

is it possible to run the FrontEnd and the Edge-Service on the same server?
Or is it a must have to install two servers, one for the FE and one for the edge service?

We have an enviroment with one server for fe and edge and got problems with A/V from externally.

IM works fine, but if we want to enable the A/V features there's an error message which tells us we got an network problem and should try again later.

Somebody got any help for us? Are there some port problems or is the problem the one-server-setting?

    thanks and regards,

    Freddie

  • No, this is not possible.  The installation process will prevent these server roles from even being installed on the same host, and even if you could by-pass that installation check the different roles would not function on the same server.

Proper handling of A/V communications via Edge is the most complex portion of configuring Lync so this depends greatly on your network layout and server configuration.  Have you followed the deployment guidelines exactly or deviated in some way (e.g. using a single NIC on Edge server)?

We'll need a host of additional information about your deployment in order to be of any help.
