Skype meeting share and black screen issue

Question
-
Hi here,
Running Skype meeting using Surface Pro 4 (W10 1809), and share a notepad on the meeting. But when I move another notepad over the shared notepad process, participants can see the black area on their screen. Here you can see example:
Does anybody knows how this could be fixed? I tried already with the latest driver package [SurfacePro4_Win10_17763_19.091.15066.0.msi]: Surface Pro 4 Drivers and Firmware but did not help.

Hi Petri!
Based on the test results, it seems to be by design.
I did a test in my environment and the result is the same as yours.
As a meeting organizer, I shared a window (shared Notepad) to participants by following these steps:
*Click share content-> share a window -> choose what you want to share
Then I move another notepad to cover part of the content shared in yellow box and found the covered part turned black from the participant screen. If the window in yellow box is minimized, participant can only see black area on their screen.
Here is a workaround for your reference. You can try to share your desktop in the Skype meeting and see if this issue still persist.

Jimmy Yang

Hi Jimmyy,
Thank you for your reply, but I feel that this has come with W10 and has not been in W7 earlier. So I wonder is there something to be done for W10? Perhaps modifying how the windows are handled by OS and display memory. So I do not expect that is a Skype issue, but Windows 10.
And you proposal for sharing desktop is not an option as that is counted as security risk (data leaking).

I did a test in Win10 and Window Server 2016 again and now it works.
The following steps are for your reference, you could try to see if this issue still persist:
*Click Present Programs
*Choose the Note you want to present and Click OK
*Presenter view:

Hi Jimmyy,
Thank you for your investigation. That solution is of course working when you are sharing multiple windows at the same time on Skype (ooh ! I wish Teams product group could implement this into Teams as well).
But the issue is when you are having e.g. customer meeting you might need to take a look some information from LOB apps, which you do not want to share to participant(s). Or you are having important meeting, and then some unexpected popup comes to your screen (e.g. SCCM update warning). Those are causing the black boxes.

Hi Petri X!
At present, we have confirmed it is by design in Skype for Business client and this issue only happened in Win10.
I also did a test in Microsoft Teams and it is no issue.
This bug mentions will going to try to fix in Windows 10 and it will be update later.
We also highly recommend you create a UserVoice in Skype for Business UserVocie. The link is:https://www.skypefeedback.com/users/723439732-bummed-sfb-user. Your kindly response will improve user experience with our product.
