Remove Lync 2010 Edge server from pool RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 2 Lync 2010 Edge servers in pool.  I need to remove 1 server from the pool.  Are these the proper steps of removing a edge server from a pool?  Thank you.

    1) Launch Lync Server Topology builder

    2) Remove Lync Edge 2010 server, publish the topology

    3) open Lync server management shell and type "export-CsConfiguration -filename filename.zip

    4) Log on to Lync edge server, launch Server Management Shell, type Import-CsConfiguration -LocalStore -FileName c:\filename.zip

    5) Run Lync deployment Wizard to remove files from Edge server

  • Steps are correct, you should also:

    6) Remove Internal/External DNS entries pointing to the decommissioned Edge server. Keep in mind DNS LB or HLB for the pool shouldn't include the removed server anymore.

    7) Remove firewall rules for decommissioned Edge server.

  • You dont need steps 3 & 4. Because these steps are only for the installation of a new Edge.
When you Publish Topology  it'll replicate to all servers including Edge Servers, so you dont need to export/import configuration.

So instead of these steps, you must check if the Edge Server that you want to remove, has last replica status, before run Deployment Wizard to disable role.

  • Hi TTming,

The process you provided is right.

After remove the Edge server, you should do steps 3 & 4 if you want to continue to use this OS.
