Can a OC user backup his contact list RRS feed

  • Question

I would like to have the possibility for my users to make a "backup" of their own contact list.

I know Dbimpexp.exe can fix the problem but i would like the user himself to do it and they doesn't have access to Dbimpexp.exe

At the moment I'm running R1 on the Client side but I'm planning to migrate to R2 env.

  • Unfortunately no, it is not possible, so only administrator could help backup contacts with Dbimpexp.exe on server.

  • You could get your scripting hat out and write something, I had to do this before. I wrote some code that the user could run and it would read their contacts export them and then allow them to be reimported.

  • I have a question that not about technical, Is that practical to let users export/import contacts by themselves, if the very important contacts was lost, who will responsible this?

  • Hi Ben,

Yeah that is an important consideration. In our scenario it wasn't seen as being very critical but just providing users with some convenience and avoiding extra work for IT.

  •      Yeah, I agree, here is another way to achieve that, from "Mark", thanks for his sharing.

Not from the client side, no not really.  You need admin rights and access to the SQL DB to accomplish this.  Assuming you have that, you may use DBIMPEXP.EXE included with the server media.

    About the only client side method I am aware of (if you want to call it that) is the following;

    1.       In MOC, right click on a user and select copy.

    2.       Open NOTEPAD and paste (you will get the SIP address)

    3.       Repeat for all contacts you want to export

    4.       To import back, simple paste each address back into the search bar and add as a contact (of course this assumes that they are no longer on this user’s contact list)

Not very automated but it will allow a user to ‘export’ a list of contacts.

As far as ‘any possibility what-so-ever’ goes, there is one other method.  Obviously every time you sign into MOC, you are given a list of your subscribed contacts.  You can enable logging in MOC which results in the creation of a UCCAPILOG file in %USERPROFILE%\TRACING folder.  This log contacts a record of all SIP traffic to your client.  Contained within this log will be your subscribed list of contacts.  There is nothing pretty about it and no method whatever to import it.  BUT it is a complete list contained in a text file.  Open this file in notepad and search for "containers xmlns", what follows is a list of the users you are subscribed to.

Interesting note:  Want to see who has you on their contact list?  Following the above section is a “subscribers xmlns” list of just that.

    Best Regards!
