Lync 2010 in a IM-Presence ONLY deployment

Question
-
Environment:
Windows 2008 R2 domain
Exchange 2010
Sharepoint 2010
NO VOIP in the organization yetWe are urged to deploy Lync 2010 as our IM-Presence solution ONLY.
Is there any Microsoft resource that will help us get this accomplished? what are te minimum amount roles that need to be deployed for IM/Presence functionality? Can those roles be all deployed in just one physical/virtual server?
Thanks in advance

Hi, the dial pad will remain even though you are not going to use it, you could progam on it to meet your requirements.
For 500 users, a Lync server standard edition will be fine for your scenario, more information please check this document.

Depending on how many users you need to support, a single Standard edition install on one OS instance, sutibly sized would do what you need.

Hi, capacity planning for Lync server deployment please check this article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg399017.aspx) which state how many sip users will be supported in vary scenario, if just for small sip users of Lync server deployment, you only have to install Lync standard edition server with express SQL server collocated, for more information about collocation rules for Lync roles, please check following document.

Ben-Shun Zhu,
As I stated in my original question this is for IM /presence only and he number of users is about 500. I am mainly interested in knowing:
- that the user interface is NOT going to display a dialpad since this is for instant messaging purposes
- what is the minimum of roles required to implement just for that function?
Thanks
John
