Purchased Laptop with windows 8 now it says I am not eligible for the upgrade? What can I do?

    Question

  • I purchased a  gateway laptop a couple of years ago with Windows 8 already installed, have upgraded every time windows sen an update and now I never got the invite to reserve a copy on windows 10 so I checked your site to see how to get it. Your site says my version is not eligible?! WHAT the heck is up with that?! I bought this with the stupid windows 8 crap on it already and now I can't upgrade without a fee? That is not good customer service. I need to know what to do to get rid of this horrid windows 8 garbage.

  • Hi Donna,

    Thank you for your question.

    Please make sure you have installed KB3035583 update in update history or in “View installed updates”:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3035583

    Then check if we could get Window10 reservation.

    If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

    ... and the upgrade from Win8 to Win8.1 is also free.

    So, if that's the case, you'll just end up doing two upgrades:

    1. Win8 -> Win8.1
    2. Win8.1 -> Win10
