Basics for Lync 2013

Question
-
I have downloaded Lync 2013 and installed it on my Windows 8.1 laptop with Office 2007. It refuses to sign-in. M Office 2007 has SP3 installed.
How should I proceed?

Hi,

Are you running the Lync Server yourself? Is it up and running?
Are you connecting to a O365 Lync Account?
You need to ensure you have Lync services for the Front End to authenticate against, so this either means you are running the Lync Server in your environment, or you will need to logon to a Hosted Lync Account.
If it is hosted you will need to ensure your credentials meet what the hosting company provided for you.
