Users recently upgraded to latest office 365 build (SAC) are having daily issues with their AD accounts locking RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are on the Semi Annual Channel for Office 365 updates.

Recently version 16.0.11328.20368 was pushed to this channel. At the same time this was pushed out we started having alerts from our domain controllers that various users accounts were locked.  These same accounts that are being locked are the same users who were recently upgraded to the latest version of office.   We can see no failed logon attempts in the event log just simply a locked event (4740).

We have MFA enabled for these accounts and are not sure if its related.

We are seeing no issues with AD lockout for users running the previous build of office (build 10730.20348)

    Any ideas?

  • Thank you for the reply.

We discovered this was related to a cached credential in Credential Manager.  After users were upgraded and there AD accounts were locked we signed them out of the Office apps, cleared all "MicrosoftOffice" and "Outlook" related credentials from the credential manager, unlocked their AD account, and then had them sign back in to office.

This appears to have fixed it for us.
