Remote users unable to view Power Point Presentations on Lync 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi! We  have deployed Lync 2013 into our environment and everything is working except for one thing, PowerPoint Presentations for external users on lync (Domain joined) and through the Lync Web App.

Internally PowerPoint presentations work fine on the lync clients .

When External users try to via a powpoint presentation the are presented with the error message : "Either the network connection has been lost or the server is busy please check your network connection.

Sometimes the powerpoint presentation connects but the show stage screen is black and has a white bordered window inside the black screen as if the presentation almost connects but fails at the last minute.

We have published the webapps server through tmg following this guide:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204665.aspx and our Web appserver is using a trusted ssl certificate.

We can succesully bring up the XML data when we go to the address succesfully: HTTP://server/hosting/discovery

    Any help would be great!

  • Hi All . I have seemed to resolve this issue with a setting in ForeFront.

I needed to Untick the box that says "Verfiy Normalization" on the Traffic tab and select Filterering on the Office Web Apps Rule in ForeFront.

Thanks a lot for your help guys some further googling resolved my issue in the end.

  • I had the same thing not too long ago.  If memory serves, I recall looking through the Lync client logs and noticing that it was trying to connect to the internal server URL for the OWA server, even though the external URL was published and I could reach the discovery URL like you can.

I think it was a Lync front-end server reboot that finally fixed the issue, which implies that a service needed restarting to re-cache the proper OWA URL settings.

  • Thanks for your prompt reply Ken . Unfortunately restarting the lync server has not worked . I can not seem to find the event logs on the external clients when  trying to view a power point presentationt. I have set 2 external clients to full logging in the Lync app but no information comes up in the event logs when i try to view them? Is there something im missing?

  • Have you tried setting both -internalURL and -externalURL to the external URL (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219442.aspx)? Assuming you have split dns and the url internally will resolve to the server/farm IP and externally to the reverse proxy.

Try viewing the XML internally/externally using  HTTPS://OWASexternalurl/hosting/discovery.

In the Topology builder are you defining the Office Web App server with the server name or external url and https or http?

Also if you patched the Office Web Apps servers after deployment, you'll need to remove each server from the farm and recreate the farm: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj966220.aspx

  • I have the same issue, where the the internal user starts a powerpoint presentation, the remote user receives the request but, the powerpoint does not load (keeps loading)

    Everything else is working fine.
