Does Lync 2010 server support Active Directory & Global Catalog 2012 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear concern,

The environment has 2008 R2, 2012 R2 and 2016 Domain Controllers & Global Catalog servers, Forest and Domain Functional levels are 2008 R2 also has Lync 2010 server. My concern is that if I demote the 2008 R2 Domain Controller will it makes any impact to run my Lync 2010 server!

    Thanks

    Babu

  • Hi Babu,

Based on my research, these settings cannot be achieved.

If you raise forest functional level from windows server 2008 R2 to windows server 2012,you must update your win 2008 DC to the win 2012.You could refer to this link.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc754918(v=ws.10)

But lync Server 2010 supports domain controllers running the following operating systems:

    • Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system
    • Windows Server 2008 operating system
    • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 32-Bit
    • The 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the Window Server 2003 R2 operating system
    • The 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the Windows Server 2003

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/office/skype-server-2010/gg412831(v=ocs.14)#supported-domain-controller-operating-systems

  • Dear Leon,

I don't want to raise Forest Functional level 2008R2 to 2012 but I want to keep 2008R2 functional level.

My concern is that if I demote 2008 R2 Domain Controller will its make any issue to run Lync 2010 server.

  • Hi Seb0815,

Do you want to remove the 2008R2 DC in your domain?

If so ,based on my research ,it will not affect the Lync 2010 server, please remove the role to other server, migrate the user ,after that, remove 2008 R2 Domain Controller.

    Best Regards,
    Leon Lu
