Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology, Get-SPEnterpriseSearchStatus not recognized, The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component is in good state RRS feed

  • Hi.

    This is SP 2010.

I am on a SharePoint server and using SharePoint Powershell. So snapin is not a matter here.

    1. Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication gives me details and says the search is online but when I try  Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology or Get-SPEnterpriseSearchStatus it says 'is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the nam e, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.'

    2. When I access SSA in Central Admin, it says 'The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '**' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again. Tried timer jobs reset, config cache cleanup, running config wizard, delete-recreate SSA, changing app pool accounts - no luck.

    3. deleted all orphan/duplicate search databases from DB Server - no luck.

There were some security patches installed on 9/25. We are guessing that has made things bad. As commands like  SPEnterpriseSearchTopology and Get-SPEnterpriseSearchStatus are not even recognized, I think there are some files/folders missing. There could be more configurations messed up.

Please suggest if I can somehow reconnect the dots. If not, pleas suggest steps to clean current search and do a clean new search setup.

    Thanks,
