KB4523205 Failes to install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

I'm having an issue getting KB4523205 to install on my Windows 2019 Servers, I have had the same issue already in October with KB4519338.

When I look into the CBS.log file I can find the following line:

    KB4523205 [HRESULT = 0x800f0982 - PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND]

I can see that it is listed as a known issue when you have the Asian language pack installed, but I don't.

I have the full log file I can share on my one drive but it won't let me post a link yet as my account is new :)

I have this issue on multiple Servers of mine, they all vary as to how they are installed and their rolls, what they all have in common is that I remove unused windows-rolls and features via PowerShell so that you can't just install them anymore without pointing to an external source.

    e.g.

    Uninstall-Windowsfeature DHCP –Remove

I have tried the installation of the Update package via our SCCM patching and also went directly to Microsoft Updates and when that didn't work I even downloaded the update package from the Microsoft Catalog and tried that way.

Does anyone else see this issue or know of a fix for it? I tried the usual DISM and checks, cleaning out the SoftwareDistribution folders etc, nothing so far has worked.

    Thanks

    Cedric

  • Hi Cedric,

Are there any error codes recorded in the Event Viewer(Windows Logs\Applications, Setup, System)?

Please open the Settings app, go to Time & Language, click on Language option, and then check if other language pack was installed on your system by careless.

If no any other language pack installed on your system, I would recommend to perform suggestion action recorded in October 8, 2019—KB4519338 (OS Build 17763.805), so please go to Setting\Update&Secruity\Recovery\Reset this PC, we could choose keep personal files and data during reset machine.

As forum support is not provide log analysis, if you want to have CBS.log analysis support, please go to the link below and create a ticket.

  • There is no Reset your PC option on a Windows Server Installation. That is a client feature. And even if it was are you seriously telling me that I would have to "reset" a Domain Controller?!

And no, there are No other languages installed.

    PS C:\> Get-WinUserLanguageList

    LanguageTag : en-US
    Autonym : English (United States)
    EnglishName : English
    LocalizedName : English (United States)
    ScriptName : Latin
    InputMethodTips : {0409:00000409}
    Spellchecking : True
    Handwriting : False

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

  • Might also want to try using a different source of installation media.

I already tried from our SCCM, directly via Windows Updates and I downloaded the msu package from the Microsoft Update Catalogue and that didn't work either.

  • I meant to use a different source of Windows Server 2019 installation media in case of corruption.

This is basically a replication of one of my servers that is having issues.

Server A Updates without issue from SCCM, Server B again fails Update KB4523205 with the error as in my original post. Now I have been removing unused windows Features for over 8 years now and never had an issue with a system. This is the first time I'm having issues and yes all systems are new to our environment as per October 2019 and our first 2019 Servers.

    Any thoughts?
