Windows 10 upgrade and use setupcomplete.cmd to install lasted CU RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I got a problem:

when I use below code in setupcomplete.exe to install lasted CU with OS upgrade, the PC reboots but not apply the CU. I must manually reboot PC again to make the CU be applied.

    REM -------- 2020-06 CU --------
    systeminfo | findstr "KB4567512"
    IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 1 (
    dism.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\CU\Windows10.0-KB4567512-x64.cab /Quiet /NoRestart
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup" /v SetupShutdownRequired /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /)

    Is there something wrong?

Or, do you have any idea to install lasted CU automatically within OS upgrade?

    thank you in advance!

  • Since you are using SCCM Task sequence to upgrade windows 10, I recommend you

ask the experts in the dedicated SCCM forum over here:

  • When an in place upgrade repair is performed it can be with or without updates.

Consider performing an in place upgrade repair with updates:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    .

If there are any problems with the in place upgrade repair then run setupdiag and post a share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

  • Hi,

Unfortunately cumulative updates are not installed automatically. They are visible only if you go to the Windows Update page in Settings and manually check for updates. The only way to install one of these optional updates is to click the Download And Install Now link below its entry.

    Best regards,

  • i have already download cumulative update, and i could use DISM command to install it.

the whole story is, i will use windows 10 1909 ISO to upgrade current 1803 OS.

    command line like this:

    setup.exe /auto upgrade /InstallLangPacks <location> /PostOOBE<location> [\setupcomplete.cmd]

and in the SetupComplete.cmd, i use DISM to install lasted CU.

now the problem is, i have to manually reboot computer again after the upgrade completed, or the CU will not be applied.

  • There are Windows upgrades that are performed with the Microsoft upgrade assistant or with a Windows 10 iso.  These are with very different language packs.

What is the situation with your computer environment that these routine methods are problematic?

Windows 1803 should have already upgraded unless there were upgrade problems.

Had you troubleshooted the failure to upgrade?

Run setupdiag > post a share link into this tread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

  • I'm using SCCM Task sequence to upgrade windows 10, so the routine methods are not available...

the challenge is, currently most of the users are working at home and connect to company via VPN. when PC reboots, VPN will lost connection, and then task sequence fails.

So, setupcomplete.cmd is the only method i know to working after PC reboot and upgraded.
