Pitfalls/gotya's when moving to exchange online

  • We are a small business (<30 users) looking to move to exchange online.  We currently have SBS 2008 (running exchange 2007), on the surface the switch seems pretty easy, but was wonder if there was anything I should look out for.  Any quirks, or gotyas to consider before I make the move?

    • Public folder support is for e-mail only, not contacts or calendars; consider using SharePoint Online or shared mailboxes if necessary
    • Shared mailboxes often take longer to access than end users are used to with internal Exchange systems; ensure your Internet bandwidth is sufficient for a positive end user experience and consider sending out some communications to properly set expectations
    • Make sure all workstations have the necessary updates prior to migration
    • Remember that cutover and staged migrations require new Outlook profiles, and mobile phone profiles will have to be recreated
