Update agent 2012 r2 to 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi! I have two dpm servers - dpm 2012 r2 and dpm 2016 on Win2012 R2 (because we had big problems with performance with ReFS on the Windows 2016 + DPM 2016). I must relocated my dpm 2012 r2 agent to dpm 2016 without reboot. How to do it right? I see it as:

    1) stop and disable protection on dpm 2012 r2;
    2) Manually update dpm agent before 2016 version;

    3) attach protection server on dpm 2016

    Right?

  • Hi,

    You will not be able to perform any restores from the old DPM 2012 R2 if you move your agent to your new DPM 2016 environment. If the recovery points are not needed you can simply stop and delete the recovery points and then delete the agent.

    If you want to keep the recovery point data, then do as follows:

    • Stop the protection of the protected server on your DPM 2012 R2.
    • Uninstall the DPM 2012 R2 agent from the protected server manually.
    • Push the DPM 2016 agent from your DPM 2016, or manually install the DPM 2016 agent and attach the agent to DPM 2016.

    Best regards,
    Leon
