Delete mailbox after one year RRS feed

  • Question

  • We want some mailboxes to be deleted after one year. If we create a retention policy, it looks like only the content inside the mailbox is removed and not the mailbox itself.

Can I do that somehow automatically? I am looking for a native/supported option but if that's not feasible, other suggestions are welcome.

  • There's no native feature for this. You can however use PowerShell to achieve this, for example by looking at the WhenMailboxCreated attribute for said mailboxes.

  • You can stamp any of the custom attributes with the creation date?

  • Hi Vasil, I have an additional question. It looks like that attribute is not very trustworthy. It changes on specific events.

Do you have a good idea how I should delete mailboxes after one year? I thought of labeling, but then how is PowerShell going to see when that label is said. I didn't find an attribute.

    Do you have any thoughts?

    thanks again in advance.
