Conferencing Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook 64-bit Installation Errors with Outlook 2010 64-bit

  • Both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Conferencing Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook (ConfAddins_Setup.exe)
available on give the following error message when attempting to install with Outlook 2010 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit: "You need 32bit Outlook to use this setup".

This KB shows the error messages that should be displayed if the add-in does not match the installed Outlook version:

File compare indicates that the two versions are different files but I suspect they're both 32-bit.

Has anyone had success installing the 64-bit add-in downloaded from this page?

  • Live Meeting add-in 32-bit for Outlook 2010 32-bit works correctly on my computer, and Live Meeting add-in 64-bit prompts need Outlook 64-bit version on my computer.

    Would you try again?

    Accept Terms and Install Add-in (32-bit)      ConfAddins_Setup.exe      10.2MB

    Accept Terms and Install Add-in (64-bit)      ConfAddins_Setup.exe      10.5MB

If still doesn't work, would you check Outlook whether be installed properly?

    Best Regards!

  • Thank you for your help but I no longer have the 64-bit version installed. After reading the disclaimer on the volume licensing site, I removed the 64-bit version and installed the 32-bit version. I need SharePoint functionality that isn't available in the 64-bit version.

Important: Microsoft strongly recommends the use of 32-bit (x86) versions of Office 2010, Project 2010, and Visio 2010 applications as the default option for all platforms. Learn more about the deployment considerations for x64 and x86 at TechNet.

  • I had the same issue. I have downloaded the 64 bit conf add in and have 64 bit outlook on a 64 bit windows 7 OS. Yet when I try to install the conf add in it tells me I need a 32 bit copy of outlook.

A work around I have just come up with for the short term was to install the WebScheduling component in our OCS 2007 R2 environment. Now anyone experiencing the same 64 bit issue as myself can still have all the same capabilities as the plug in by logging into a web browser URL (https://<server>/conf/int) and it works a charm and is still all fully integrated with outlook.

You can even edit existing scheduled livemeetings through this web interface.

  • You are working under OCS environment but not same scenario as above problem.

He is using Live Meeting online services so WebScheduling component is not feasible for him.
