When using smartcard to digitally sign email on Outlook 2010, this error occurs consistently:
"An error occurred in the underlying security system. Insufficient memory for the operation."
The event viewer gives
This is on Windows 7 64 bits. Not sure where the insufficient memory comes from. The smartcard has sufficient memory when used in Win2003/WinXP 32 bits for the same operations. The workstation has 8GB memory and Outlook is the only thing I am testing on the workstation.
Furthermore, I am able to use soft certificate (workstation based certificate) to digitally sign email successfully on this workstation without an error. Only when I select the smart-card based certificate for the digital signature that the error occurs after the smartcard light flashes a few times.
I have removed Outlook2010 and installed Outlook2007 on the same windows 7 64 bits, and similar problem exists.
It definitely has to do with Windows 7 and 64 bits. I read where some comments about size of memory (too large or too little) and I don't see that in this case. I have 2 workstations running windows 7 64 bits (one with 8GB and the second with 2GB memory) and Outlook has same problem on both.
Any suggestion will help.
