Publish Exchange 2019 to Internet RRS feed

  • Question

  • I made a lot of searches on the internet but I didn't find a definitely answer. I'd like to post it on MS forum to make sure my understanding

    Here is the IT environment:

AD: Win Server 2019, Location: Intranet

Role: Two mail Exchange 2019 on Win Server 2019,IP:,,Location:  Intranet

Role: Edge Exchange 2019 on Win Server 2019. IP:  Location: DMZ

NGINX: IP,Location: Intranet, Roles: Providing loading balancing service

Based on my research, If I want to publish email service to internet, I need to publish the Nginx server to the Internet.  But it's unsafe to release it on the internet. Can I release the edge server on the Internet to provide email service? if yes, what should I do?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Sir,

Thanks for your reply. In fact, I've published the Exchange successfully.

What makes me confused is the following topology from Microsoft

Mail flow on above topology indicates that external SMTP server connect to the Edge server, but in production, I need to NAT the loading balancing IP to provide the exchange service

The mail flow and client access process is separated from each other. Edge transport server doesn't act as any role in client access process, it is only one of the components in the mail flow pipeline.

Therefore we should NAT the loading balancing IP to mail and Autodiscover records, it won't affect the inbound mail flow through the Edge transport server since Edge has its own record.

By the way, I also answered this question in another CN thread, below is the link:
