Summary Link Top Left description field RRS feed

  • Question

  • Someone has brought an "issue" to me where when they edit a Summary Links webpart, click Configure Styles and Layout and then choose Top left for all links it also shows the item description.

    The two questions I have are

    • Is this by design?
    • Is it possible to remove the description from appearing

  • Hi,

    You can use ”Title Only” style for links in the Summary Links web part. It will not display the descriptions.

    Another method, you can deploy your own custom style for the Summary Link web part. The Summary Links web part uses XSL style sheets to display items. The style sheet is located in the site > Style Library > XSL Style Sheets.

    Information about how to customize Styles for in SharePoint:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms551040.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

    Demo: Add custom styles to Summary Links web part:

    https://theroks.com/add-custom-styles-to-summarylinkwebpart/

    Though these articles are for SharePoint 2010, it still has good information for SharePoint 2013.

    Other alternative, you can use following script to hide the descriptions of links on the page.

    <style>

    div .description{display:none;}

    </style>

    Best Regards,

    Linda Zhang
