access sharepoint remotely? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am really new at this and I apologize if I waste anytime.
Our company has windows server 2003 and with that we have sharepoint 3.0. we have remote access to our email accounts through the server. My question is, can our company web on sharepoint be accessed remotely as well?
I would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

  • Hi JDaniel,

Yes, WSS 3.0 can be accessed remotely.

Tthe best way would be to:

    1. Extend a web application to a new zone (to get another authentication provider like Form based)
    2. Create/enable SSL if you need encryption on the site
    3. Add the URL to Alternate Access Mapping in Central Admin
    4. Ensure that the FQDN is accessible from Internet (Use an ISA Server if available)
    5. Publish the SharePoint server to Internet

Create or extend a Web application (Windows SharePoint Services):

    Hope this helps!
