  • Question

  • Not sure which forum to ask this question , but here's hoping . When I tried to install the Webcam I used with my old sytem, it told me that it is not compatible with Windows 7-The Browser I use is Mozilla Firefox. Is there a Driver or Webcam that will work with this new Windows 7. If so , where can it be bought ?

I have found a Webcam that will work with Windows 7 -- I am very happy with it & it may help others who are having compatibility problems with Webcams - It is a Microsoft LifeCam 1.4 - NX-6000 - Best wishes to all & my thanks to all who have answered my questions, it is nice to know there are people out there to help with new stuff for our PC's.

  • Langy2,

If your processor supports virtualization, you can always resort to using your webcam in XP Mode in Microsoft's new Virtual PC , which has worked for many people.

  • Well, that highly depends on where you live.. right? :)

Vista compatible should work with Win7, should say so on the box. However, be on the lookout for the Creative basic ones. They don't support anything higher than XP.

  • Hi, what webcam are you using? I had the same problem with mine, it's a Logitec Quickcam. the software would tell me repeatedly that it's not compatible every time i tried to install it, eventually it just let me install it. if it's giving you a ton of trouble, try getting the latest version from the vendor's website and you can also try some run as admin / compat mode, etc...

one thing though, on my Logitec Quickcam, the PC wouldn't boot up without crashing anymore until i went into safe mode and made it so that no logitec app was running at system startup, you could also do this after installing the cam but before rebooting the pc. just do a start menu search of System Configuration. the webcam still works fine but i can't use the logitec software with it (big boohoo, right? lol).

  • Hi Scott. Yes you are right about it being a big boo hoo, a right pain in the posterior actually.
My Webcam is not one of the well known brands, but has always worked very well with my XP Professional. It is a Chicory USB PC Camera. I had never heard of it before, but was assured by the store salesman that it wsa a very good camera Hah!!
I'll  try doing all you suggested & see what happens. Maybe we will be able to buy a Cam that will work with this system when it is on the shelves for sale? My thanks to you for your help .
