Cannot create new outlook profile with office 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello folks,

Need your suggestion to fix the issue.

    Exchange Server 2013 CU17

I have a user who wants to use outlook 2016 but i cannot configure his outlook profile after profile creation outlook prompts for the credentials and doesn't connect to the user mailbox.

When i use outlook 2013 it works perfectly without any issue.

    Appreciate your suggestions and advice.

  • Hi Lucas,

    Finally issue is fixed.

Backed up the user mailbox and exported the mailbox as .pst file

Deleted the usermailbox from the exchange server and recreated new mailbox with same user alias name.

Imported the .pst file back to the usermailbox.

    Thanks all for their suggestions.

  • Hi

How are your urls defined(autodiscover, oab, etc.) and are you using basic auth or NTLM on IIS for authentication?

  • Hi Edward,

    Thanks for the reply !

Internal and External URL's are same name, IIS Authentication is anonymous.

We have two exchange servers and internal load balancer as well.

I have created test account and configured the outlook profile with office 2016.

But i am failing to configure it for few users, Do you think is it AD profile issue or Exchange Mailbox issue ?

    Regards,

    Arif

  • Do you have MAPI over HTTP enabled at all?

What error are you getting? Does it say the account cannot be found or does it simply prompt you continuously for the password?

Have you tried basic auth on IIS?

  • Hi Mohammed,

When the Outlook profile cannot be configured, is there a specific error message?

Please follow the steps below and see if the issue is resolved:

    1. Are you using these few users who cannot create Outlook profiles to try to log in on OWA? If not, please try it.

    2. Please check if the autodiscover service is working as follows:

    1) You could enter the URL of autodiscover into IE browser to see if it will respond to "600 Invalid Request"

    2) You could use ExRCA for testing, it can help you ensure that the Exchange server connection is set up correctly. If problems are encountered, it can provide detailed error information

    About ExRCA:ExRCA.

    3. Please migrate the user to another database and try to configure Outlook profile again.

    4. Try repair the mailbox by running:

    New-MailboxRepairRequest -Mailbox "<mailbox_name>" -CorruptionType ProvisionedFolder,SearchFolder,AggregateCounts,Folderview
For more information you could refer to:New-MailboxRepairRequest.

  • Hi there

Have you tried to repair the mailbox?

Look below, it is for exchange 2010 but outlook 2016, maybe the registry change works for you if it is only 1 user having this problem:

  • Hi Mohammed,

Just to confirm, Can you check if the UPN and email address is same or different for the problematic user and also check the same for the test account which is working fine. Also, you can compare the AD account and Exchange mailbox properties of the test account and the problematic user.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mohammed,

According to the issue description, it's more likely an AD account related issue.

Are there any common characteristics of these problematic accounts? For example, are they in the same OU?

Meantime, you could check event logs, for example application, security and system event logs to see if there is any issue account related error.

Have you compare the test account and the problematic user accounts? Any clue?

Does the user has any shared mailbox configured with automapping?

Can you do Test Email Auto Configuration test for the user? To do this, Ctrl+ right-click on the outlook icon in the system tray and check the log tab when it prompts for credentials.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mohammed,

Considering that only a few users have this problem, you could try to export the mailboxes of these users, then create new mailboxes for these users, and finally import the exported data into the users' existing mailboxes.

After completing the above operations, please try to configure Outlook profile again.

For more information you could refer to:Procedures for mailbox imports from .pst files in Exchange Server and Procedures for mailbox exports to .pst files in Exchange Server
