Lync Attendant & Voicemail option

    Question

  • Hi

I have a Lync response group up and running for our reception/switchboard staff, who are using the Lync Attendant console. We have noticed when trying to transfer a call to a fully Lync Enterprise Voice / UM< enabled user, that when you search for the individual in the search box, then look at the drop down option under call for list of numbers etc, that the voicemail option is not available. However if I do a search for the same contact in my standard Lync client, I can see the voicemail option under their call list.

One thing I have noticed, is that, if you cancel the search results and enter the conatcts name again, the second time round the voicemail option is available. This is happening under older and the latest attendant console version *.253.

Some contacts the VM option will be present, for many, it is not.

    Many Thanks

  • Hi,

My Lync Attendant works as same as yours. If I just input one word in the search box, voice mail can't be find in the contacts call options. When I input first same word to search again or continue to input second word, voice mail option can be found.

Maybe it is a optimized search experience. More contacts are to get UM option need more time. If Input more then one word to search, more approach right contact you want, it will synchronize the UM message automatically.

  • Wayne,

I'm having the exact same issue as the one you described above.  I've opened a ticket with PSS.  I have been told it's a bug in CU2.

  • CU3 for server? Or is there one for the attendant console?

  • This problem is confirmed by MSFT that this is a bug, which is not fixed by CU3.  Hopefully, it will make it into CU4.

  • is it worth uninstalling CU2 or downgrading to fix the issue? Our receptionist is really struggling with this issue.

  • We had this problem also.

We got over it by forcing Attendant to redownload the address lists:

First, close and exit from the Attendant console.

    A. On your Lync FE server, open Lync Powershell and type these two commands (this rebuilds the address details from AD):
        Update-CsUserDatabase
        Update-CsAddressBook

    B. Wait until you see event ID 21004 "Next synchronization pass will start at..." in the Lync event log

    C. On the Attendant PC, from an elevated CMD prompt, type this (this forces Attendant/Lync to download the address book everytime it starts):
        reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator /v GalDownloadInitialDelay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

    D. On the Attendant PC, open the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Communicator and delete the folder sip_username@domain.tld matching the user logged on as Attendant

    E. Restart the Attendant application and check your contacts - you should see the voicemail option for them all now.

I don't know how long this will last, or whether you have to do it frequently, but it worked for us.

Let me know if it helps.

UPDATE: It seems to have lasted about four days, and we had to do this again.

  • I have just spotted this issue with latest updates applied. Since the last client update was over a year ago, I guess MS are not going to fix it. Has anyone got past this issue another way?
