SharePoint online - how to display URLs in list new form descriptions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm having trouble with something that should be simple but I can't seem to figure out.

I have a list where users can apply for cell phone upgrades by creating a new item and filling in the relevant information.

In the new form, the user must accept the relevant policies. In the description of each of this tickboxes, there is a link to where the policy can be found.

The problem is, the URL does not actually display as a hyperlink, but just as basic text.

    Using Office 365 sharepoint online.

    (screenshot removed because "

    • Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account.")

    What I've tried:

    * Using html tags inside the description field (href etc). Displays as text.

    * The web part editor by adding ?PageView=Shared&ToolPaneView=2 in the browser address. Displays nothing and the page is titled "Error"

    * Customize using powerapps. This allows me to make a form with a clickable link, but when actually trying to use the form the user is asked to sigh up for a trial to powerapps - so it's unusable.

    * Edit the form using Sharepoint designer. After staring at the code for 30 minutes I can't make any sense of it, it seems to pull the data itself from elsewhere so I have no idea how/where to edit it.

    * Make a new form using sharepoint designer. This renders the hyperlink, but no longer uses the modern ui experience. If possible I'd like to keep everything the same (using the modern ui experience). My backup plan is to use this.

    * Similar to the point above, if I click on "Return to classic SharePoint" at the bottom left of the page, the hyperlinks display correctly.

    * Edit the form using infopath. This renders the hyperlink correctly, but changes the visual format of the form to something completely different (different to the sharepoint designer's style as well), so I don't want to use this for the same reason as the classic sharepoint experience above.

tl;dr I want urls in new item forms to be hyperlinks instead of text

    Thanks

  • Hi eplestarte,

If you use classic experience, then you could customize the form and add hyperlinks by adding content editor web part.

We can go to new form, edit the page, add content editor web part, edit the content editor web part and add the code below in the content editor web part. Then it will display as hyperlinks.

    <a href="http://www.google.com/">google </a>

If you use modern experience, then you could use PowerApps to customize the form. Then you can use label or other controls to display text and use the “Launch” function for the on select/change.

The url will be display as text. But you can access the URL by adding the “Launch” function.
