PDF files not getting crawled

    Question

  • Hi All,

    I have problrm with PDF search

    I have two machines one is 32-bit and the second is 64-bit

    Machine one is 32-bit machine with Windows 2003 OS and MS-SQL Server 2005 and

    Machine two is 64-bit machine on which 32-bit OS (Windows 2003) is installed, MOSS 2007 (32-bit) is also installed on this machine. MOSS on this machine is using SQL Server that is installed on Machine one

    I have installed PDF IFilter 6.0 on both the machines

     On Machine Two

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office

    server\12.0\Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\Filters\Extension\.pdf

    Extensions\12.0\Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\Filters\Extension\.pdf
                    value is
                    {4FEEFC9F-1B35-4EAD-B0A0-0BC3DAC57FAF}
                    {4C904448-74A9-11D0-AF6E-00C04FD8DC02}

    After all the PDF files are not getting crawled

    In crawl logs it is giving following message for PDF files

    Crawled (The filtering process could not process this item. This might be because you do not have the latest file filter for this type of item. Install the corresponding filter and retry your crawl. )

    Please any one let me know where is the problem and how to solve

    Thank you,

    Shiva.

  • Hi Shiva,

    This can happen if the CLSID for the IFilter is pointing to a wrong location. In case of PDF IFilter 6.0 provided by Adobe, the CLSDID is {4C904448-74A9-11D0-AF6E-00C04FD8DC02}

    I note that one of the value you listed is correct however not sure why there is another value {4FEEFC9F-1B35-4EAD-B0A0-0BC3DAC57FAF}

    Ensure the below mentioned locations point to correct CLSID which should be {4C904448-74A9-11D0-AF6E-00C04FD8DC02}:
    1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\Filters\Extension\.pdf]
    2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server
    Extensions\12.0\Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\Filters\Extension\.pdf]

    What’s more, you don’t need to install the PDF IFilter on two machines but only index server is enough.

    For more information about installing PDF IFilter 6.0 on MOSS, please refer to:

    Hope this helps.
