2010 Scanpst not recognising 2010 pst RRS feed

  • Question

  • After an upgrade to Outlook 2010 the archive.pst would not open.

I tried using Scanpst to repair the .pst and got the following message.

This data file appears to have been created using a newer version of Microsoft Outlook that this Inbox Repair Tool does not support. Run the latest version of scanpst.exe to repair the file.

  • Here i suggest you to scan the pst file with tool other than scanpst.exe.  Download a tool from http://www.pstrecovery.org and scan your pst file. This tool is capable of repairing corrupt pst files as well as recover deleted items from pst files.

  • Hello Mark,

Last time I was encountered the same issue like you, I opened the data file on another workstation and exported the data to create a brand new PST file which opened without any issues in the affected Outlook profile. That resolved the case. I thought there might be corruption in the Outlook data file (PST).

Hope my experience may help you.

  • Hi Tony,

Tried to create a new profile for a similar issue, this did not help. I'm still getting the below:

This data file appears to have been created using a newer version of Microsoft Outlook that this Inbox Repair Tool does not support. Run the latest version of scanpst.exe to repair the file.

    Any suggestions. Thanks again!

  • Have you tried to open this PST file on other's computer? We need to make sure the data file is heathy.

In some cases, the PST files can be "fixed" by Renaming the PST --removing the additional "." mary.pst.pst  --> MaryPST.pst

However, these workarounds are not 100% successful.

  • I've tried opening it on my computer, still getting the same error messages:

'Errors have been detected in file C:\Archive1'

Then when trying to repair with ScanPst getting:

'This data file appears to have been created using a newer version of Microsoft Outlook that this Inbox Repair Tool does not support. Run the latest version of scanpst.exe to repair the file.'

Tried renaming the pst to 'Archive' getting the same error.

Is there a key in the registry where I could force the .pst to recognise the current version of ScanPst  I'm using?

  • There are many third party utilities available that recover the .pst file, but not the user profile. I have used the reliable Outlook Repair Toolbox to recover my outlook data from corrupt .pst file. This software recovered all my outlook data without any loss.

Download http://www.pst.repairtoolbox.com/ and check whether your data has been recovered or not.
