Set maximum message size for one recipient?

    Question

  • We currently have a global policy restricting inbound SMTP message size. If I set a different policy (a more restrictive one) on a specific mailbox, will it be overriden by the global policy? I'm pretty sure the opposite is true (as message size would get exceeded before reaching the user's mailbox) but was wondering if the following example would work:

    - Global setting limiting maximum inbound SMTP to 30MB.

    - Manual setting limiting maximum inbound SMTP to specific mailbox to 10MB.

  • Hi,

The order of precedence for message size limits is the most restrictive limit is enforced. If your organization's message size limit is 30 MB, and you configure a 10 MB limit on a specific mailbox, any messages sent to the specific mailbox that are larger than 10 MB will be rejected. You can see the "Order of precedence and placement of message size limits" for more details.
