Feature: SharePoint Server standard site collection features -> what does it do ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

What does the feature: "SharePoint Server standard site collection features" do ?

We are running without it enabled, and we get errors in SharePoint Designer. But to let our IT department enable it, I need to give them a business case and tell them what it actually does..

But I cannot find any helpful information online. Could someone point me to the correct location?

PS: yes, I know how to enable it, but I want IT to enable it in our templates so I don't have to do it manually

  • Hi,

As I understand, you want to know what SharePoint Server standard site collection features can do in SharePoint 2013.

If you enable the SharePoint Server Standard Site Collection features, it will enable User Profile Service and Search Service. And it will apply only to those subscriptions that include a SharePoint Server Standard license.

For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.

The article below is about enable or disable site collection features.

  • Hi,

It has listed the Site-scoped and web-scoped features are active when activating “SharePoint Server Standard Site Features” in the article below.

  • Hi,

When you enable 'SharePoint Server standard site collection feature' or 'SharePoint Server Enterprise site collection feature' it enables a bunch of standard site collection features.

Refer to this link of list of features enabled

  • Sara,

That is indeed what it says on the description of the feature...

    But what does that mean?

We have search on the site, both on site level and list level.

    We can add people/groups fields.

What can't I do if I disable this feature? What are the benefits of enabling this feature ?
