sync local files to a share point 2010 server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I work in a corporate company, where untill today they use sharepoint 2010 server.

    Now i have a new library created with check-in option disabled and no files in it.

    I have a a local folder, where my log files get updated every second. ( this PC will not have any Office product on it, this is a WIndows PC just to collect logs ). I want to SYNC this local files to my corporate sharepoint 2010 server 24/7 non-stop or with periodical update for every 15 mins or every 30 mins once.

    onedrive is not my solution with 2010 SP, if so please educate me.

    What is the solution?

  • If the log files are updated via script just change the location to update it directly to SharePoint instead of some folder in windows PC then syncing to SharePoint. Just saying :)

  • Hi Aravind,

    You can use PowerShell commands to upload these files into a library of your SharePoint 2010 site.

    To sync the files every 15 minutes or 30 minutes, you can create a scheduled Windows task to call the PowerShell commands every 15 minutes or 30 minutes.

    A demo for uploading files into a library:

    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SharePoint")
    if((Get-PSSnapin | Where {$_.Name -eq "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell"}) -eq $null) {
         Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell;
     }

    #Site Collection where you want to upload files
    $siteCollUrl = "http://webapplication/sites/Upload"
    #Document Library where you want to upload files
    $libraryName = "Shared Documents"
    #Physical/Network location of files
    $reportFilesLocation  = "C:\Users\manas\Desktop\Files"

    $spSourceWeb = Get-SPWeb $siteCollUrl;
    $spSourceList = $spSourceWeb.Lists[$libraryName];

    if($spSourceList -eq $null)
    {
        Write-Host "The Library $libraryName could not be found."
        return;
    }

    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $reportFilesLocation)).GetFiles()
    foreach($file in $files)
    {
        #Open file
        $fileStream = ([System.IO.FileInfo] (Get-Item $file.FullName)).OpenRead()

        #Add file
        $folder =  $spSourceWeb.getfolder($libraryName)

        Write-Host "Copying file $file to $libraryName..."
        $spFile = $folder.Files.Add($folder.Url + "/" + $file.Name, [System.IO.Stream]$fileStream, $true)

        #Close file stream
        $fileStream.Close();
    }
    $spSourceWeb.dispose();
    Write-Host "Files have been uploaded to $libraryName."

  • Hi Wendy,

    Thanks a lot for your script, i have passed this to one of my colleague to try it out.

    Here comes the issue that im not a programmer, i can understand your script but im not a developer.

    So i was looking, if there is any tool or some thing from microsoft itself or even from a third party where i can do more things like history of uploaded files or if all the files uploaded or once internet reconnect then starting the uploading from where it left etc.,

    Just to explore....

  • Hi Aravind,

    You can check if SharePoint Workspace 2010 and SharePoint Rsync match your requirement.

    Third Party Tool disclaimer:
    While Microsoft supports and encourages open-source software development, it does not provide technical support for the softwares from third parties, nor does it guarantee that the software will work as described.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

  • Hi Aravind,

    SharePoint Workspace 2010 is included Office 2010 Professional plus, you need to have Office 2010 Pro plus.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

  • Hi Aravind,

    I searched online and however I could not find where we could download Office 2010 Pro Plus trail.

    You may ask your local Microsoft Products Sales for help.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

  • Hi,

    I have downloaded the office professional plus 2010.

    I need a trail product key to evaluate the functionality.

    I thought the exe itself is an evaluation version.
