Outlook 2010 Start-up Problems

Question
-
I bought a new PC last month with Office 2010 Pro and all was working fine until today. I am on a business consulting engagement w/a company and tried to set up an Outlook email account to access my new Exchange ID on their corp domain. Things didn't go well, and now when I try to open Outlook I can't. I get the following message:
"Cannot open your default email folders. Outlook cannot start because a dat file to send and receive messages cannot be found. Check your setting in Microsoft Outlook profile. In Microsoft Windows, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel. Click User Accounts, and then click Mail. Click Show Profiles, select this profile, and then click properties."
I did all that, ensured that my mail accounts and files were okay (went through "Repair" and all is good), but still can't get in. I also tried the Office Repair option, but that didn't help either.
My guess is that during the process of trying to set up an Exchange connection something got hosed. But there is no exchange email account that I can see.
Any thoughts?

This seems to be interesting problem that several people have happen to have, but I hate, what seems to be, the top solutions. They are repair, re-install, and create a new profile. They seem to solve some type of problem, but with some type of re-setup or reconfigure. Although I do not claim this will resolve all problems that are related this issue, but I have found the following steps seems to work on most cases:
Edit email profile in Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003, follow these steps:
- Click Start > control panel>User Accounts> Mail
- In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.
- Select your default profile or the profile causing the problem. Generally there is only one profile.
- Click the Properties button.
- In the Mail Setup - <Profile Name>, click E-mail Accounts.
- Check to make sure you have a default selected under the E-mail and Data Files tab. Most cases, I have found that the Data Files do not have a default. I believe this is caused by a new Data File not being created correctly and sets the Default to a non-existing data file.
- Click Close, click Close, and then click OK..
I hope this helps those trying to find a simple answer without repairing, creating a new profile, or re-installing the software.
