what is the equivalent of Search Scope Rule type in SharePoint 2013?

    Question

  • Hi All,

How can I create new Search Scope of type Web Address in SharePoint 2013? The following screenshot from SharePoint 2010 and I can't find this functionality in 2013? Any help?

  • Mohamed,

In 2013, search scopes are now Result Sources.  Unlike 2010, you can create these are different levels: web app, site collection, or site.  Check this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj683115.aspx

To limit the results to a web address, you can use the "path" restrictor in your KQL query when setting up the Result Source.  So it would look something like this:

    "searchTerms path:http://URLTOTOURSITE"
Using the "Path" restrictor you are telling the search to limit results only to that path and any sites below it.

  • Hi Brandon,

I cannot seem to find this anywhere, but what is the syntax if you want to restrict a Result Source JUST to the root site collection ("/") and nothing bellow it ("/<managed_path>") ?

    Thanks in advance.

BTW, your blog is awsome. I'm subscribing!
