Outlook 2007 with Windows 7 .eml issue

    Question

  • Hi, i am having issues opening up .eml files with Outlook 2007 on Windows 7 x32 machines.

I understand that the file association no longer exsists but has anyone managed to resolve this issue ?

    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Hi

Thank you for using Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.

From your description, I understand that you try to open a file that has the .eml file name extension did not open in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. However, this file opens in Outlook Express, in Windows Mail, and in Internet Explorer. If there is any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

  • see....................................do you see how problematic windows is. I was xpecting a simple answer to the question on how to open eml files and instead of an answer, we got ourselves involved in another one of microsofts quests(quests = never ending issue while troubleshooting windows.)  involving time, more time, a little bit more time, and more time after you think you've figured the problem out............................and then .............yup, more time once again. and  don't forget the registry .  that's how they solve the problems is by editing and fawking up with ur systems registry which always results in system crash.  all because Microsoft had no easy solution to a simple problem. im certainly not going to touch the registry just to open up a stupid file type.

an alternative option, is to install Windows Essentials / Live Mail, which was the successor/replacement, for Outlook Express.
If you don't already have MS Office/Outlook, WLmail is an option for you.
